One of One
A love of creation through sewing and a desire to extend the life of secondhand materials are the building blocks of Spotted Tongue.
There are many artistic expressions that I have dabbled in. I have loved all of them, but sewing is where I have found the most enjoyment. I love it! It is something I am always thinking about and looking forward to doing.
I have always loved shopping at thrift stores, sifting through items at estate sales, rummaging at garage sales. There are so many beautiful textiles I find that seem like they are at the end of their road. I like to scoop them up and make something new out of them so they can keep on cruising!
By finding unwanted, damaged, and discolored materials, I salvage the most of each item and create something new to be used, loved, and admired for years to come. I think of it as giving old things new life. So, when you purchase something, remember that it is made from repurposed material. I do my best to avoid stains and to mend any structural damage; however, there still may be signs of wear. It is a reminder that items should and can be recycled into something new and usable instead of discarded.
And who knows, maybe years down the road you will decide to grab a seam ripper and be inspired to turn these creations into something new. How cool would that be?
